Remedy for all evil: The Beauty of Woman

Aug 20, 2018

It is quite the divine compliment that wisdom is referred to in feminine terms…building her house…And a house is only a home because of the people who live and love there…and there is no stronger presence of love or builder of a stable home than a woman.

Women and their feminine nature have this power wonderfully in common with Christ who is both Savior and self-identified as the ultimate happy home-maker which is the entire purpose of His Incarnation, Passion and Resurrection…to build a home for us in Heaven by first making of us, our lives, our bodies a home for Him here on earth…and this same power to do so in God’s perfect Wisdom is at its most potent when entrusted to women.

Prior to His arrest Jesus had this to say about His Home-Making talents:

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith* in God; have faith also in me. 2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3* And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.a

There is no greater home that God prepared for Himself than the Blessed Virgin Mary…who is the most noble of all God’s creations…but what all women share in common with Mary is a similar greatness…who Mary is and how great her love and faith is…is not just reserved for her…but a power than resides in the hearts of all women.

Saint Paul tells us today: Be filled with the Holy Spirit…who is the lord the giver of life…filled with the Holy Spirit Mary is able to make incarnate in her womb Jesus Christ…the Son of God now in the flesh…

One of Mary’s many distinguished titles is Seat of Wisdom…because filled with the fullness of God being the fullness of Grace…she is both the wisdom of God and the beauty of God…and what we all need daily is an authentic experience and recognition of what true beauty is…and nowhere will this be more found than in a faith-filled and virtuous woman who is Mary-like in expressing the power of her feminine dignity.

When we think of beauty do we not instantly associate it as Wisdom does with the feminine…do we not refer to the abundant beauty and nourishing resources of the earth in feminine terms…mother Earth…

Is not the Church referred to in its most accurate terms as the Bride of Jesus Christ and as our Mother…and did not Jesus in deciding to enter our world in order to save it and us create for Himself a woman who would prepare from her own body and give to him from the fullness of that body, the body that He would not only suffer in on the Cross and be risen from the dead in but also whose fullness of love and mercy is given to us in the Holy Eucharist?

It was you, Virgin Mary, /Who gave us this body and blood / Which raises our status so high / that it is beyond the reach of the angels. I am the living bread that came down from Heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. But Jesus can only do so because of the woman Mary…and none of us can live, have homes and have had the lives we had unless for those most special women of all…Heavenly Home-Making Moms.

The Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said:  “To a great extent the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood.  When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her.

The higher her virtue, the more noble her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her.”  Sheen also proclaimed that an honest and noble man seeks to be deserving of the love of a virtuous and noble woman.

Sheen asserted that a woman’s virtuous disposition and attitude, her heroic life of virtue, or lack thereof, is paramount to her moral nobility and, in effect, paramount to the moral strength or weakness of society at large.

And perhaps the greatest homage and compliment paid to the exceptional dignity of the woman is the whole point of our existence…the beatific vision or beautiful vision of God…

We have all had those stop us in our tracks take our breath away moments of experiencing beauty…maybe a double rainbow, a sunrise or sunset…a shooting star…holding one’s baby for the first time…

Or truly what is perhaps the greatest beatific vision or visible heaven on earth moment…when those Church doors get thrown wide open and the organ erupts with the Wedding March and down that aisle comes God’s greatest gift to man who God knowing it is not good for man to be alone…gives to him his soul-mate, his companion, his bride…

The lifting of that Bridal Veil like lifting one’s eyes to Heaven and seeing God in all the fullness of His spectacular and radiating beauty…this is but a shadow of that moment when our breath is at last taken away and when we open our eyes and raise them from the sleep of death, those gates of Heaven are thrown wide open and with the Angelic and Saintly choirs erupting in songs of praise and thanksgiving we behold God in all His grandeur and splendor and ourselves…

Seeing ourselves as though in a mirror in this incredible vision of both beauty and wisdom at last knowing who God is…and how beautiful He and we truly are.

And we can see God, actually see Him because like us…He has a human body for us to look upon and human eyes with which to look lovingly upon us…and that is because God’s entire body comes from a single source of humanity one source only…a feminine source who is Mary…so that in seeing the God in whose image and likeness we are created from it is because God has chosen to physically adorn Himself by the beauty of woman…it is this feminine beauty that radiates forth from the beatific vision of God Himself and that image we are all created from.

This is why Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and adoration is so important here on earth: “We become like that which we gaze upon…. Looking into a sunset, the face takes on a golden glow […] Making a Holy Hour [with Christ] allows us to grow more and more into His likeness”

Or why especially for men, there must be in place visible reminders of the devotion we must have to Mary by way of rosaries, statues and /or paintings put in places where we are sure to see her every day and be inspired by what we see and who she is to be more Christ-like especially in how we treat and look upon all women.

The alternative to this is almost too horrible to consider but must be addressed…the Devil is constantly trying to mimic, pervert and corrupt the goodness of God…there is no greater act of God’s goodness than to create us in His image and likeness and His masterpiece of creative beauty is the woman.

There is then no worse scourge then when people especially men engage in that sacrilegious exposing of one’s eyes, mind and heart to pornography…As gazing on Christ will make us more and more Christ-like, gazing on the images that pornography provides will not only make us less and less God-like but less and less human…and before civilization collapses…how many relationships and families all ready are being destroyed by the scourge of pornography which transforms Heaven’s Beauty into the ugliness of Hell?

This Wednesday we celebrated the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a reminder that we must reclaim and have access to authentic feminine power which is genuine wisdom and beauty. But as the Sun illuminates the beauty of the moon…it must be the Son of God Jesus Christ who illuminates our beauty and goodness…and nowhere does that light glow with greater illumination than in true devotion to Mary…with her placed in our hearts…especially our masculine hearts by the inspiration of Mary adoring women…the evils of this world will be soundly defeated.
