CALLING ALL PRAYER WARRIORS!
40 HOURS DEVOTION. APRIL 3/4TH
SCHEDULING AT END
BEGINNING THIS FIRST FRIDAY APRIL 3RD AS USUAL, WE WILL HAVE ADORATION. INSTEAD OF 24 HOURS OF ADORATION WE ARE EXTENDING IT TO 40. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MASS THERE IS NO MORE POWERFUL FORM OF PRAYER THAN WHEN WE PRAY IN THE PRESENCE OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT EXPOSED DURING ADORATION.
THIS IS AN IDEAL TIME TO NOT ONLY FURTHER BOMBARD HEAVEN WITH OUR PRAYERS BUT THE ARTILLERY WE WILL USE IN THIS WAY OF PRAYER WILL BE MORE POTENT TO HELP ERADICATE THIS VIRUS IN ADDITITION TO MAINTAINING OUR USUAL PRAYERS FOR THOSE WE LOVE, PEACE IN THE WORLD AND A RESPECT FOR ALL HUMAN LIFE.
Three special dimensions have also surrounded this devotion: the protection from evil and temptation; reparation for our own sins and for the Poor Souls in Purgatory; and deliverance from political, material, or spiritual calamities Here the faithful implore our Lord to pour forth His abundant graces not only for themselves, but their neighbors, not only for their own personal needs, but for those of the world.
Second, the number forty has always signified a sacred period of time: the rains during the time of Noah lasted 40 days and nights; the Jews wandered through the desert for 40 years, our Lord fasted and prayed for 40 days before beginning His public ministry. And of course the season we find ourselves heavily and deeply in with all that’s going on around us, Lent is 40 days.
As the great Doctor of the Church Saint Alphonsus Luguori once said: "Certainly amongst all devotions, after that of receiving the sacraments, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament holds the first place, is the most pleasing to God, and the most useful to ourselves."
Typically the Knights of Columbus have the normal First Friday Hours covered. The 40 Hours will run from 800am Friday Morning until Midnight Saturday. Therefore, we will especially need the hour slots filled for Saturday, especially beginning at 800am onward.
Please note the Church will be locked during the following times for Mass/Stations:
Saturday 715am – 815am and 330pm to 530pm
ALL other times we will need adorers.
There can be NO MORE than FIVE people in Church at once…maintaining safe distance from each other.
The Pews are disinfected often. However, it is recommended to bring a Lysol-like wipe with you to wipe down the area where you will be seated.
THERE MUST BE AT LEAST ONE ADORER PRESENT BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT. JESUS MUST NOT BE LEFT ALONE.
